What makes Gwelmor dog-friendly?

Qualifying as a dog-friendly holiday cottage doesn't just mean advertising 'dogs welcome'. At Gwelmor in Widemouth Bay, north Cornwall, we aim to do all we can to ensure that our four-legged VIPs feel as much at home as their owners.

As a result we're extremely proud to have received numerous rave reviews from dog owners who have stayed with us in the past, many of whom have become repeat visitors, but we've also won industry awards for our dog-friendly nature.

This year we were delighted to win Bronze in the Dog Friendly Business of the Year category of the Cornwall Tourism Awards 2020/21. It is the second year running that we've won the award and in 2019/2020 we were also commended for Self Catering Accommodation.

Gwelmor was launched in 2017 after owners, Jayne and Bill, turned an empty three bedroom bungalow into a luxurious holiday cottage where dogs are considered just as important as their owners. I came after experiencing some rather dicey, so-called 'dog friendly’ properties around the UK whilst on holiday with their two spaniels Molly and Indy.

So, what welcome touches are in place at Gwelmor to make your dog feel very much at home?

  • All our furry VIPs (Very Important Pets) receive a packet of yummy dog treats, handmade in Cornwall, with a personalised hand-stamped name tag
  • Gwelmor has a fully enclosed garden so there’s no escapees!
  • A map is displayed showing dog-friendly beaches throughout Cornwall

Dedicated dog cupboard

Our utility room is pretty much devoted to dogs with our four-legged friends getting their own dedicated equipment cupboard containing:

  • Four water and food bowls
  • Doggie placemats
  • Wet food forks
  • Biodegradable poo bags
  • Selection of dog towels for muddy paws
  • Outside hose attachment for washing down sandy paws
  • Extra bedding
  • Extra leads
  • Tennis balls and chews
  • Three giant fluffy throws to chuck over the sofa
  • A dog cooling mat is also provided is the summer months

A week prior to their arrival, forthcoming guests also get access to a private section of our website which includes a list of useful contact details including local vets.
