Gwelmor holiday cottage has been named the best Dog Friendly Business in the South West of England.
The three bedroom cottage in Widemouth Bay, near Bude in north Cornwall, won Gold in the glitzy South West Tourism Excellence Awards held in Exeter on Thursday, April 7, 2022.
Gwelmor was put forward for the regional awards after scooping Gold in the Cornwall Tourism Awards 2021/22 in February 2022.
Jayne Martin, Gwelmor’s owner, said: “I’m in total shock. To have won best dog friendly business in Cornwall was incredible, but for the whole of the South West is unbelievable.
“We’re only small business so for us to win such a prestigious award is mind-blowing."
Announcing Gwelmor's success, Robin Barker, Director of Services for Tourism Ltd who manage the awards, said: "Gwelmor has been welcoming V I Ps - Very Important Pooches since 2017."
Jayne added: "We launched Gwelmor in 2017 following our own experiences on several supposedly ‘dog-friendly’ holidays which left us feeling like second class citizens for wanting to holiday with our pets.
“We decided to create our luxurious cottage, close to the sea, where dogs are welcomed just as much as their owners – if not more!
“Over the years we’ve welcomed dogs of all breeds into our home to enjoy a holiday by the sea, many of whom have returned time and time again.”
Each furry visitors to Gwelmor received personalised dog treats handmade in Cornwall by Paws for Cake. All new four-legged visitors also get a personalised welcome letter 'pawed' by Jayne’s own dogs Molly, Indy and Margo.
Gwelmor’s utility room is dedicated to doggie guests with an abundance of towels, spare bedding, sofa throws, food and water bowls, tennis balls, spare leads, a doggy shower attachment as well as a cooling mat for those hot summer days.
