Doing our bit for the environment

One of three bedrooms at Gwelmor

At multi-award-winning Gwelmor, we are continually looking for new ways to make our self-contained holiday cottage more eco-friendly and help reduce our carbon footprint.

All our wooden furniture is made from recycled or sustainably sourced wood thanks to the talented team at Chunky Monkey in Devon.

We supply a selection of gorgeous natural toiletries for guests to use during their stay from local Cornish firm Land&Water.

Guests can indulge in the fresh and invigorating scent of Grapefruit, Orange/Lime and Mint adding a hint of 'spa luxury' with our range of hand wash, body wash, shampoo and conditioners all in 100% recycled refillable pumps.

Adding a dash of spa luxury to the bathroom

It is the latest step to further expand our collaboration with regional suppliers. And so far, they've gone down extremely well. Kitty's Herbery shop is literally just up the road from us in Bude. If you stay with us at Gwelmor and like what you smell, why not pay them a visit and pick up some products to take home with you?

We've also swapped our regular toilet and kitchen rolls for 100% recycled products from Who Gives A Crap.

Ok, it might not be local but not only do they supply quality recycled paper, the company gives 50% of its profits to help build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world. Good eh? Especially when you learn the shocking statistic that 2.3 billion people in the world do not have access to a toilet.

Other environmentally friendly measures we have in place include:

  • A recycling bin for glass, washed tins, paper and card
  • A green food bin and 'hot' composter for bio-degrable waste
  • Eco-friendly cleaning products where possible, but some are currently on hold due to coronavirus and have been swapped for viricidal cleaning products instead (update June, 2021)
  • Reclaimed and sustainably sourced wooden furniture throughout from Chunky Monkey Furniture
  • Gwelmor's book recycling scheme where guests are encouraged to leave behind a book they have read in exchange for one of ours
  • Organic, handmade mattresses from Devon firm Naturalmat

We are also in the process of exploring the installation of solar panels and an electricity charging point and will update you on this when we can.

We are always on the look out for fresh ideas, so if you have any, please get in touch.
