Gwelmor doing its bit for the environment

At Gwelmor we are continually looking for new ways to make our self-contained holiday cottage more environmentally-friendly and do our bit to reduce our carbon footprint.

Our guests will already know that the wooden furniture throughout Gwelmor is from sustainable or recycled wood thanks to the talented team at Chunky Monkey in Exeter.

Our herbal toiletries

We've also introduced a range of gorgeous herbal toiletries from local Cornish firm Kitty's Herbery, reducing the need for single use plastic. It is the latest step to further expand our collaboration with regional suppliers.

Gwelmor's guests can now indulge in the fresh and invigorating scent of Rosemary and Bergamot with our range of hand wash, hair & body shampoo and conditioners in refillable pumps.

So far, they've gone down extremely well. Kitty's Herbery is literally just up the road from us in Camelford. If you stay with us at Gwelmor and like what you smell, why not pay them a visit and pick up some products to take home with you?

In addition, we've swapped our regular toilet and kitchen rolls for 100% recycled products from Who Gives A Crap.

Ok, it might not be local but not only do they supply quality recycled paper, the company gives 50% of its profits to help build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world. Good eh? Especially when you learn that 2.3 billion people in the world do not have access to a toilet!

Other environmentally friendly measures we have in place include:

  • A recycling bin for glass, washed tins, paper and card
  • A green food bin and 'hot' composter for biodegrable waste
  • Eco-friendly cleaning products (currently on hold due to coronavirus and using viricidal cleaning products - updated January 29, 2021)
  • Reclaimed and sustainably sourced wooden furniture throughout from Chunky Monkey Furniture
  • Gwelmor's book recycling scheme where guests are encouraged to leave behind a book they have read in exchange for one of ours (numbers reduced due to coronavirus - updated January 29, 2021)
  • Organic, handmade mattresses from Devon firm Naturalmat

We are also in the process of exploring the installation of solar panels and an electricity charging point and will update you on this when we can.

We are always on the look out for fresh ideas, so if you have one, please get in touch.
