Gwelmor, a contemporary holiday cottage in Widemouth Bay, has been named one of the Best Dog Friendly Businesses in Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly.
Last night we attended the glitzy finals of the Cornwall Tourism Awards 2019/20 and came home with a prestigious Bronze award – the first, but hopefully not the last – award we’ve won in our two and a half years in business.
We are absolutely over the moon, and that’s not all, we were also ‘commended’ in the Self-Catering Accommodation of the Year category.
Judges said that Gwelmor, a three-bedroom bungalow in Widemouth Bay, north Cornwall, had “so much for dogs, great facilities”.
The awards, which celebrate the best of tourism businesses across Cornwall & the Isle of Scilly, were announced in a whole host of categories at glittering ceremony at Truro Cathedral last night (November 7, 2020)
I feel it is a fantastic achievement for such a small business to have even been recognised asa finalist as we were up against other much bigger businesses than ours such as well-known hotels, holiday parks and camping sites.
After the event I put together a press release which prompted a three-page review in Cornwall Today.
In the release I wrote: "It really is the icing on the cake for everything we’ve achieved over the last two-and-a-half years since our launch.
“The idea for Gwelmor was born out of many family holidays with our two dogs, Molly and Indy.On far too many occasions we were left feeling like second-class citizens just because we had dogs. We wanted to create a luxurious holiday cottage where both owners and their pets could feel totally relaxed and at home, so, in 2017 we bought Gwelmor and turned it into a stylish retreat fit for the whole family.
“A key focus for us from the start was to use as many high-end regional suppliers. Everything from our organic mattresses to the handcrafted, reclaimed and sustainable wooden furniture is from regional businesses, right through to the artwork on our walls, our dog treats and the eggs we use in our hot-out-the-oven welcome scones for guests!
“I the last two years I’ve learned so much, especially about sustainability and the steps we can all take in the tourism industry to help the environment.
“Each year we strive to find even more ways to make it the best experience for our guests, both of the two and four-legged variety, whilst also caring for our environment.”
