Behind the Scenes: A Typical Changeover Day at Gwelmor

Owner Jayne with Margo on changeover day

The Morning Goodbye (But Not Really Goodbye!)

Changeover day usually starts with sad farewell to departing guests. We always hope they’ve had a wonderful stay — whether they’ve been surfing, exploring the Cornish coast, or simply relaxing with family and their dogs.

Many of our guests leave lovely reviews in our comments book or message us about their stay, which genuinely makes all the effort worthwhile.

Then it’s time to reset Gwelmor for our next arrivals.

Deep Cleaning & Freshening Up

First priority? A thorough clean from top to bottom. This isn’t just a quick tidy — it’s a full refresh to make sure everything feels pristine and welcoming.

This includes:

  • Fresh bedding, towels and perfectly made beds
  • Kitchen deep clean and restock check
  • Bathrooms sparkling and ready
  • Floors vacuumed and mopped throughout
  • Outdoor areas checked, lawn mown and windows cleaned

We want guests to step in and immediately feel at home.

The Little Details Matter

Often it’s the small touches that guests remember most, so we make sure:

  • Lighting, heating and comfort settings are just right
  • Welcome information is up to date
  • Supplies are topped up and welcome treats await
  • The cottage feels calm, cosy and inviting

Because holidays should start the moment you arrive — not after you unpack.

Preparing for Our Four-Legged Guests Too 🐾

Being a dog-friendly holiday cottage is something we’re proud of. Changeover day always includes making sure Gwelmor is just as welcoming for dogs as it is for their humans.

That means:

  • Preparing our dedicated doggie supplies cupboard in our utility room
  • Replacing used sofa throws and towels with fresh ones ready for our next four-legged VIPs
  • Leaving behind our doggie treats complete with personalised name tags

After all, some of our happiest guests have four legs.

Final Checks Before Arrival

Before new guests arrive, we do one last walkthrough:

✔ Everything clean and comfortable
✔ Welcome treats for humans and pooches all ready
✔ Keys and arrival details prepared
✔ Cottage looking its absolute best

There’s something really satisfying about knowing the next guests are about to start their Cornish escape.

Attention to detail

Then It Starts Again…

Each changeover day is part of the rhythm of running a holiday cottage — guests arrive excited, stay becomes memories, and then we prepare again for the next visitors.

After 10 years of welcoming guests to Gwelmor, that moment when someone walks in and says “wow” still never gets old.
