Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs star in The Salt Path film

The book that inspired Gwelmor’s owners to walk The South West Coast path is has been released as a film starring Gillian Anderson (The Crown) and Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter).

The Salt Path, by Raynor Winn, is the story of Raynor and her husband Moth who, finding themselves homeless, decide to trek the 630-mile path along the Dorset, Devon and Cornish coastline – many spectacular legs of which can be easily accessed whilst staying at Gwelmor dog-friendly holiday cottage.

The Salt Path’s story begins when the Raynor and Moth are apparently made homeless in their 50s after a business deal with a friend. She described how after a lengthy court battle they lose the Welsh farm where they brought up their two children.

The book goes on to describe how their situation worsened when Moth was apparently diagnosed with a rare and incurable degenerative brain disease - corticobasal degeneration.

Carrying nothing other than bare essentials and a tent, the couple began their journey walking the South West Coast Path’s at its start point in Minehead before walking its entire path.

The story – which inspired us to attempt to follow in their footsteps – sees the couple soon rediscover their happiness and Moth’s illness even improved whilst the made the challenging journey.
