Why dogs love Gwelmor

Beach loving guest Verne the Weimaraner

There’s something truly special about a holiday by the sea and that goes for our four-legged guests just as much as their humans.

At Gwelmor, we’ve welcomed literally hundreds of happy dogs over the years, each arriving with wagging tails and leaving with sandy paws, windswept ears and memories of coastal adventures.

If you’re searching for a dog-friendly holiday cottage in Cornwall, here’s why so many dogs love staying here.

A Beach for Adventures

Just minutes from Gwelmor's doorstep is the wide sandy shoreline of Widemouth Bay, a paradise for dogs who love the sea air and open space.

While seasonal restrictions run between May and September, dogs are welcome for morning and evening walkies before 10am and after 6pm and a short stroll over the sand dunes, Black Rock beach is dog friendly all year round.

Margo’s favourite spot

Early morning beach walks are a favourite with many of our guests. The beach stretches out beautifully, giving dogs plenty of room to run, sniff and explore.

Whether it’s chasing a ball, splashing through the surf, or simply trotting alongside their owners, it’s the kind of freedom dogs dream about.

Walkies Right From the Door

The area around Gwelmor is perfect for scenic dog walks. From gentle countryside strolls to spectacular coastal paths, there’s always a new route to discover.

Many guests love exploring sections of the famous South West Coast Path, where dramatic cliffs and sea views create unforgettable walks.

After a day exploring, tired dogs often curl up happily back at the cottage, dreaming about their next adventure.

Dog-Friendly Pubs and Cafe’s

One of the joys of a dog-friendly holiday is that your dog can join you almost everywhere.

Around nearby Bude you’ll find plenty of welcoming cafe’s and pubs where dogs are treated like VIP guests. Water bowls, friendly pats and relaxed atmospheres make it easy to enjoy meals out without leaving your dog behind.

Many of our guests tell us their dogs quickly learn which cafe’s stops come with biscuits!

A Cottage That Feels Like Home

After a day of exploring beaches and coastal paths, dogs love returning to somewhere warm and comfortable.

At Gwelmor, we understand that dogs are part of the family. Many of our guests tell us their dogs settle in almost immediately claiming their favourite spot and enjoying the relaxed pace of holiday life.

It’s these little moments sandy paws, happy sighs, and contented naps as that make dog-friendly holidays so special.

Our Four-Legged Guests

This is one of our favourite parts of hosting at Gwelmor seeing the many wonderful dogs who come to stay.

From energetic spaniels to gentle labradors and tiny terriers, every dog brings their own personality and joy to the cottage.

We love seeing photos of our guests enjoying their holiday, whether that’s:

  • Racing along the beach

  • Posing proudly after a long walk

  • Relaxing after a day by the sea

Play time!
